Sashya Thind was born in India and is moved by her passion for architecture or design, something inherited in her family and which has led her to transform this enormous penthouse . After studying in Mumbai and living for several years in England, she moved to Boston in 2012 to create her own office, Ideate Design Studio . In this coastal city that preserves a lot of history and charm, the perfect setting for this 280-square-meter oasis for a young couple with two children who wanted to renovate and make the space their own.

The design phase took six to eight months and the works eight more months. During this period, the areas were completely reorganized and all the finishes were changed . The two main bathrooms had to be rethought (the previous owners had combined two suites ) to transform one of them into an office and make the main bedroom have its bathroom and a large dressing room.

The foyer and kitchen became an open living space with more possibilities for storage and above all with spectacular 180 degree views towards the Charles River, the Massachusetts State Capitol and the historic Boston Common public park . The panorama immediately convinced Sashya Thind to work on this project. The remodeling made it possible to maximize natural light, for example thanks to the height of the ceilings that was increased to frame the view that is the true protagonist and can be seen through the huge windows. “You're in the middle of all the elements whether it's a sunny day or a storm,” says Sashya Thind.

The old office was redesigned into a family room that can be converted into a guest room with its bathroom when the family has visitors. Inspired by Scandinavian and Japanese style, the Ideate Design Studio team chose a warm and casual palette (befitting the owners' personalities) with white and oak wood as a backdrop, as well as introducing touches of marble and limestone. The result is a timeless, minimalist and fluid atmosphere. “I wanted to design a peaceful haven, isolated from the chaos of the city,” says Sashya Thind. Modernized and welcoming, this place in the heart of Boston invites the eye to appreciate the beauty of natural light and the urban landscape in an oasis of tranquility.
